The History of the Symbolum Venatores. So Far...
The History of Symbolum Venatores is a short one, but within the fabrics of time, it is a long one. A very long one. This article will detail the first two entries of the series as well as some minor details to the upcoming third title of the series.
NOTE: This is an updated version of a previous post.
The first of the series is:
This entry details ten adventures following Gabriel Kane, one of the best and skillful monster hunters/ufologists within the Symbolum Venatores. Beginning his works in the late period of Egypt Eyalet, going across the American Civil War, the late period of Feudal Japan, the Victorian Era, and minor others, Gabriel Kane has come across many familiar faces as well as some unknown.
In The Gabriel Kane Collection, Kane meets such figures like Akhenaten, Abraham Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Shogun Yoshinobu, Thomas Carnacki, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Carmilla, Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man, The Phantom of the Opera, and Dracula. Although The Gabriel Kane Collection is not the end of Kane’s adventures, these ten stories are only the beginning of the Symbolum Venatores and what is to come.
The second of the series is:
This entry focuses on a macabre murder mystery led by Mr. Hod, a peculiar and strange man. This story is a short one and is later revealed to be set during the Russian Revolution in a hunt for a spiritual werewolf, something Mr. Hod is very familiar with. Hod will return, but not in prose as before.
The third of the series is:
Somewhat different than the first two. Set further back in history before Gabriel Kane and Mr. Hod. War of The Two Kingdoms is set in the times of Ancient Israel, following Elrad, from the Tribe of Benjamin. A man who keeps to himself is brought into the division of the Kingdom of Israel after the death of Solomon and the succession of his son Rehoboam. What follows besides the civil war between Israel and Judah is Elrad’s introduction to the world of monsters and legends. This story is layered much differently than The Gabriel Kane Collection and Hod. Such is the way ahead as it is an origin story for the Hunters themselves as a prequel to The Gabriel Kane Collection and Hod. Elrad is brought into the Symbolum Venatores (Known as the Oth Tsayad during Ancient Israel) by several moving forces. During the civil war between Judah and Israel, Elrad is taught by Iddo the Seer concerning the ways of the Hunters, bringing him to Egypt and beyond. In the end, he becomes known as Elrad The Hunter throughout all of Israel.
After the events of War of The Two Kingdoms, Elrad began his next two adventures in “Elrad’s Chronicles” starting off with “The Battle of Zephath” as Elrad is summoned by Asa, King of Judah to aid them with the ongoing conflict between Judah, Egyptians, and the Kushites. With Elrad’s acceptance, he traveled to Kadesh-Barnea to meet with Oded the Prophet who revealed the Kushite leader was a member of the Seder Kohen. With this new information, Elrad went to the Valley of Zephath to stand with the other Israelites as the battle began. Elrad chased down the Kushite leader Zerah from the valley as he revealed his true nature. Elrad ends up killing Zerah and ending the conflict.
The second adventure titled “Wrath of the Anakim” took Elrad into the domain of the Philistines as he sought out another member of the Kohen. Walking in the enemies’ land, Elrad clashed with several Philistines before meeting King Achish, who informed him of the Kohen’s movements through their region. Uncovering the member as Anak, Elrad meets with him and gives him the chance to surrender, yet Anak refuses and offers Elrad a deal. Elrad disagrees as Anak unleashes his pet, the Beast of Anakim. Elrad manages to kill the creature before taking out Anak. Elrad completes his mission and leaves Gaza, returning to Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Achish hears the news of Anak’s death just as he’s visited by priests of the Kohen.
The upcoming continuation of the series is Twilight of the Gods, which is a sequel to the series and a prequel to The Gabriel Kane Collection and Hod. Twilight of the Gods is set during the Viking Age as it will follow a Vikingr named Einar, who’s already a Hunter returning to England on a mission as “The End” approaches. You can read the first chapter to the upcoming Viking story here.
Another collection arrives this July with Symbolum Venatores Collection: Remnants Edition. An hardcover exclusive which will feature The Gabriel Kane Collection, Hod, War of The Two Kingdoms, Elrad’s Chronicles, and the first chapter of Twilight of the Gods.
The next installment of the series after the Viking Age is a visit to the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt in Symbolum Venatores: The Monster Hunter. Set to release in 2023
Also, there are two more stories, Mystery of the Magician and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Originally meant to be in prose, but due to some creative changes, these two stories are being worked out into possibly being animated films or animated shorts. Only time will unveil.
The Symbolum Venatores is scattered across a canvas of history and eras. There are many adventures to uncover other monster hunters and ufologists across time itself. History is their Playbook.
